yesterday i had an encounter which i feel i must definitely blog bout! it goes like tis..coz ytd we organized a special activity for Chen Su Lan Children's Home kids to visit the Touch elderly..so i was supposed to meet e CSL volunteers & kids @ e Home where the bus will bring us to Touch Centre. but b4 dat i had to meet cand @ toa payoh to pass her jer's bdae stuffs..but by e time i met her, i knew i wld sure be late so i had no choice but to take a cab down to CSL. after flagging for a few cabs, i finally gt into one & told e cab driver to go to Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home..he didnt noe where it is so i told him 2 take me to serangoon garden & i'll direct him frm there..so along e way, he asked me some stuffs bout e Home after knowing dat i volunteer there..he even sounded interested frm e questions he asked..but e main point is when we arrived @ CSL & i wanted 2 pay him e cab fare, he actually refused it. he said sth like tis: "你出你的一份力, 那就让我出我这一点力吧." i was like so surprised lor..& kept saying it's ok but he insisted so i thanked him & gt out of e cab. wah tis cab driver is such a nice man..although it's juz a mere few dollars but still he cld haf earned it since he drove me to my destination..tis encounter really make me feel veri comforted, nt becoz i saved on e cab fare but coz it's a testimony to e existence of such nice pple out there =)
ok tis interesting encounter aside..as i mentioned we brought e CSL kids 2 visit e Touch elderlys..e number of kids who went was pretty disappointing coz it reduced frm bout 15 kids to only 3 kids coz of last minute changes..but anyway i think it was a fruitful activity..in dat e elderly appreciated e kids' presence as e kids did a simple dance performance, interacted wif e elderly & gave e elderly e photo frames & cranes they hand-made for them. i guess tis experience has been meaningful to both e elderlys & e kids. it really is a gd chance for e kids to learn dat they r nt always e one to be "served" but dat they can do their part in serving others too.
well today, i went to give tuition as usual..but my tutee & i actually spent 3/4 of e tuition period chatting..in fact we lost track of e time & ended up spending another hr chatting..feel quite bad coz we didnt do much constructive work & kept chatting..but coz my tutee started talking bout some stuffs 1st..then when u see her so interested in talking bout it..it's quite bad to stop her & nt listen to her mah..so we ended up chatting most of e time..tis is e longest time we've chatted & when we realised dat we overshot e time, she still commented:" didn't know we had so much to chat about." haha..i think dat's one of e thing dat i'm really happy bout..to be able to build such a bond wif my tutee since we share a 2 yr plus tutor-tutee relationship le. Frankly it's nice listening to her talk bout stuffs & i'm sure she likes to haf someone listen to her & share stuffs wif her too..well i dun want to juz be a tutor to her, to be there to teach her & help her wif her studies only..i want to be a friend to her as well..someone she can talk to or confide in when she wants. but sometimes it's pretty hard too..coz my main aim as a tutor is to help her improve & so tuition time shld be spent teaching her..well i hope dat during e hols maybe i can bring her out & spend some quality time wif her..juz like a fren & a bigger sister to her=)
