i nv knew i would be so affected..e moment i stepped into e memorial hall and saw Mr Pang's photo & coffin, my tears flowed all e way till the coffin was lifted into the cematory. even on my bus journeys i cldnt hold back e tears when i thought of him & e times when we visited him.
today, it was a teary event for e volunteers who went for e memorial service..it goes to show what a deep impression Mr Pang has left on us. Mr Pang was e one elderly who made me feel that it was really worthwhile volunteering with e elderlys when i started out because i could always sense his sincere appreciation towards us & for every little thing dat we had done for him. He would always welcome us into his house with a smile on his face & a handshake. & whenever we did sth for him (like we made lanterns for him during chinese new year, painted his house, celebrated his bdae, brought him to chinatown etc), he would seem really happy and thank us repeatedly.
I really think Mr Pang is a wonderful person..as what e pastor said at e memorial service today, that Mr Pang nv complained or blamed anyone whenever he was suffering from e pain of his illness. dat's really true, whenever we visited him, he would always put on a smile even when we could sense dat he was tired or not feeling too well. e pastor also described Mr Pang as a "rich" man - he's not rich in the monetary sense but he is rich in love..yes his love for his ex-wife, for God & for e pple ard him. Mr Pang had his first marriage only 7 years ago and there were even press reports on his marriage coz they r one of e oldest couple to get married. he loved her and so wanted to take care of her for life because she was blind. unfortunately she passed away after a few years..leaving Mr Pang to live alone in his one room flat & e sad thing is, he didnt haf any children to send him off. also like wat e pastor said, Mr Pang loved to shake hands wif e pple he knew as dat is his way of spreading his happiness & love to them.
Mr Pang has touched our lives in ways that we'll always remember in our hearts. he has left such an imprint in my heart even though we are not related. our future Touch visits will never be e same again..we'll miss going to his clean house, seeing his smiley face, shaking his hand & listening to him talk.
but i believe he will be happy in heaven. Rest in peace, Mr Pang.
